About this place
Whether you’re after a filling set meal at lunchtime or small dishes and hot pot in the evening, Zubora offers different ways to enjoy an izakaya, or Japanese-style pub, at different times of day. One visitor who ordered the chicken tempura set meal for lunch described generous pieces of chicken tempura served with vegetable tempura, rice, miso soup, pickles and a small side dish. They found the batter light and the chicken tender, making it a good choice for a lunch of tempura with rice. Other set-meal options include tonkatsu, fried chicken, salted mackerel and chicken steak. The menu also lists beef tendon curry rice and oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), both at 700 yen, as well as coffee after the meal for 100 yen—lighter alternatives to a set meal, or something to finish with.
One evening visitor ordered fresh yellowtail sashimi, vinegared shirako (soft roe), and oyster hot pot, accompanied by the Japanese sake Kirakucho. They enjoyed the rich, melt-in-the-mouth texture of the yellowtail and the delicate softness of the shirako, and said they ate the oysters with ponzu. The sake, in their view, was crisp and on the dry side, with a hint of rice sweetness. They finished the hot pot with rice porridge, a satisfying way to round out a meal that moved from sashimi and a vinegared dish to a warming pot.
There is a lunch menu, and some diners have also chosen a set meal in the evening. For dinner, beer and other alcoholic drinks are available alongside small dishes. One visitor recalled lively conversation with the owner and other people there, and staying from late afternoon into the evening. Zubora can suit a daytime meal or an evening built around several dishes, depending on what you have in mind.
